Dundee Cold Stores Ltd is fully committed to embracing renewable technology and reducing its carbon footprint.
In 2009, it wishes to maximise energy efficiency at the plant, by erecting a single, 850 kW commercial-scale wind turbine on site.
This turbine could generate up to 20 per cent of the factory’s annual energy demand and increase its market competitiveness.
It’s estimated this will also reduce carbon dioxide omissions by 20 per cent.
A planning application for the erection of a 50 metre-high monitoring mast is currently with Dundee City Council. This will collate research data on factors including wind speed.
This data will form part of a second application, submitted in support of the more permanent structure. |
